Education for Unprivileged
Education is of prime importance to everyone. Education empowers us , make us aware of our rights and capabilities.
Recognizing the important role that education plays in the future of an individual and of a nation, our government have made education compulsory and free for all between the age of 6 to 14 years under the RTE ( Right To Education Act) of 2009.
There are numerous NGO’s in India, striving to provide good education to poor and disadvantaged children. One of which is MAD ( make a difference). It is youth-driven organization registered as a nonprofit in 2006.It strives to ensure that even the most vulnerable children in shelters are able to realize their dreams and break the vicious circle of poverty, through its interventions which Empower Children, Improve the Ecosystem, and Enable the Sector. Some other examples are Teach for India , Pratham and ,many others . Despite efforts of the Government and NGO’s , still less than half of India’s children between the age 6 and 14 go to school. A little over one-third of all children who enroll in grade one reach grade eight. 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate and due to plethora of other reasons.

This number is of great concern as it makes us think, Why are efforts are not paying? Do we need to incentivize our schemes more ? or are we not able to target all the required people? or do we need more assistance and support from the general public to spread awareness about the cause? There are many questions , but rarely any answers. Some state our huge population a cause of for this number, some state it will take time to bring the change and some criticize the government. I myself don’t know the real cause and even do not wish to find one. I believe solutions are more helpful than spending years on just accessing the situation and making out the real reason . With this said, I would like to present a solution. I think every school should schedule a compulsory trip on there expense, from class 8 to 12 , where they will take children to slums or other organizations where children can help others and at least get encouraged to do such activities in future. In my opinion one broad solution is to arouse the feeling of social welfare and help among all, by which , as a whole we could reach larger mass of people.
